Holistic Therapy

I offer an integrative method of treatment so my clients have the benefit of traditional talk therapies, such as Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with psycho-spiritual treatment modalities to heal trauma and past wounds.

These include therapies such as Internal Family Systems complemented with alternative healing approaches with a focus on the person as a whole through mind, body, spirit and heart.

The body and the mind function together. The health of one always impacts the other. Rather than looking at only one aspect of the individual’s life and their mental health goals, I work with you to look at the “big picture” and address the entire person.

Using a mindfulness approach, along with other areas of treatment, can be beneficial to understand how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole. Holistic therapy sessions provide a calm and supportive environment inviting you to feel trusting and safe to do the work for your physical and spiritual wellness.

Total healing. I refer to this as mind, body, spirit and heart.

mindfulness benefits

Mindfulness is the ability to be completely aware and in the present as opposed to focusing on the past, future or any other event that takes us away from being in the moment. Being mindful includes being in touch with yourself, knowing what you need, and connecting to your values and boundaries, understanding your expectations, and having the courage to be your authentic self.

Mind body therapy acknowledges the body stores emotions, tension and trauma. The Polyvagal theory provides useful techniques to regulate your nervous system and calm the body.

Mindfulness has a variety of benefits for our bodies and our minds. Whenever we experience stress, our body physically responds by emitting certain hormones and chemicals. When our bodies are in constant chaos, it can trigger the stress response to fight-flight-freeze or fawn as a survival mechanism.

Mindfulness calms us down. It signals our brain to stop sending out the added chemicals and hormones. This allows our body to recover and restore itself more naturally.

meditation benefits

Most well-known benefit of meditation is stress relief. A variety of forms of meditation have been used for thousands of years to quickly relieve stress and anxiety. There are multiple other benefits that meditation provides. Research shows meditation helps to improve mood and cope with stressful situations.

Meditation can help to improve focus and help you improve your attention span. This can help with productivity, conversations at work or with family, and helps you to not get distracted as easily.

Practicing meditation is an incredible stress reliever. Meditating regularly and practicing mindfulness together contribute to a healthy, strong body as well as a capable mind.

Additional Therapies

These are the primers. In the therapeutic relationship we want to have an emotional bond of trust and mutual respect. Using safe and proven protocols such as Polyvagal Theory, helps with regulation of your nervous system and improves social connection.

Person-centered

This is a type of psychotherapy that consists of self discovery, understanding, and acceptance of your frame of mind. With person-centered therapy, the focus is on YOU the individual, and the therapist is your sounding board.

My role as the therapist is to be there to encourage and support you and to guide you without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery.

I provide compassionate, genuine understanding and supportive reflection with a goal of understanding your unique experiences, goals, and solutions.

Polyvagal Theory

The vagus nerve plays an essential role in the way that trauma is both emotionally and physiologically stored and regulated.

Dysregulation of the vagus nerve can lead to the development of a wide range of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, trauma. and relationships.

Including a Polyvagal Theory brings awareness to your autonomic nervous system and helps you understand how trauma has affected your life. In therapy, stimulating the vagus nerve will help to repattern the nervous system, build a capacity to regulate thoughts and emotions, and create new neuropathways for safety and connection in your relationships. This will speed up the healing to be more effective.

The Internal Family Systems model focuses on differentiating the Self from the other inner parts (managers, firefighters, and exiles) and elevating Self to a leadership position. This approach helps you to unburden and restore your wounded parts and re-establish a trusted, healthy, harmonious internal system that is then led by the Self.

Develop Somatic Awareness: Learn to mindfully track subtle changes in your body sensations and heart rate. Identify your own personal signs of stress. This will help you respond right away before the stress starts to feel overwhelming or out of your control. We call this staying in the window of tolerance.

Breathwork supports many of the challenges everyone experiences. It reduces stress and it creates feelings of openness, love, peace, gratitude, clarity, communication, and connection. Breathwork also helps release trauma or mental, physical, and emotional blocks, as well as anxiety, depression, fear, grief, and anger.

We are all made up of different energy frequencies. Sound Healing, also known as vibrational medicine, helps activate the body’s natural healing system for deep restorative healing on a mental, emotional, spiritual and cellular level. Your body is made up of energy. You have an incredible reservoir of healing power already inside you. In today’s world, with all of every day stressors of work schedules, perfection and fast paced EVERYTHING… our energy can become sluggish or blocked and over time, this can lead to lowered immunity, anxiety, and/or illness.

People have been using crystals and oils for wellness purposes for centuries. Crystal healing involves bringing balance to an individual’s life and mind. Essential oils are said to “have a stable and unchanging energy pattern, each with a unique frequency and energy field, or resonance” that gives them special properties,
